What We Believe

We believe that God is real and that He lives. We believe that God the Son came to this earth in the form of His creation, a man named Jesus who is the Christ - the Messiah - the Savior of the world.

We believe that same Jesus, who was fully God and fully Man, lived a perfect and sinless life, that He died on the cross taking the sins of the world with Him, and that He rose three days later on the first day of the week. We believe He then ascended to the right hand of God the Father, and that He will return to claim the faithful and take vengeance on those who do not know God and who disobey His commands.

We believe that the only way to the God the Father is through obedience to God the Son through faith (Romans 10:17 / Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Acts 17:30), confession that Jesus is the Son of God (Romans 10:10), water baptism (immersion) for the remission of sins and to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 3:21 / Acts 2:38), and living a faithful and obedient life (Revelation 2:10).

We believe that we assemble on the first day of every week as the New Testament church to observe the Lord's Supper and show the Lord's death until He returns (Acts 20:7 ; 1 Corinthians 11).

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and is therefore the true measure of how we are to live in this world so that we can live with Him forever in the life to come (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We believe that we pray to the Father through the Son (Hebrews 7:25).

We believe that we are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus as His Son (Ephesians 2:8).

We believe in the autonomy of the local congregation as shepherded by elders meeting the criteria that Paul laid out in scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-7 ; Titus 1:5-9).

The vision of the Collegedale Church of Christ was on the minds and hearts of many long before it came to be. With roots in the downtown Walnut Street congregation, dedicated members of the Lord's body acquired the deed for the current property in 1959, with hopes to enhance its ministry outreach among college students at Troy University, as well as the Troy community.

The first building used for worship was constructed in 1974, and the Collegedale Church of Christ met for its first service on August 18, with approximately 80 members. After growth through subsequent years, the auditorium was built in 1985, and later, in the mid-1990s, the fellowship hall was added.

In 1990, an adjacent property was purchased to house the Christian Student Center (CSC) campus ministry in order to accommodate its growth and future needs. The old house that served as the student center was torn down in 2011 and replaced by a new facility in 2012.

In addition to its evangelistic ministry on the campus of Troy University, College Christian School was founded in 1986. The school provides Christ-centered instruction to more than 50 preschool students.

Collegedale has been consistently involved with benevolent endeavors in the Troy community. Past and present missions financially supported by Collegedale include: Cuba, Suriname, Honduras, Grenada, Africa, domestic inner-city ministries, Cross Culture (Ukraine), and Pioneer Bible Translators. Collegedale has partnered with the Christian Relief Fund to provide funds to drill a deep water well in Kenya, and also consistently supports natural disaster and famine relief efforts throughout the world. Collegedale has sent mission teams to Cuba, Honduras, Haiti, Antigua, Malawi, New Orleans, and Portland, Oregon.

Collegedale's benevolent efforts in the Troy community include backpack buddies and school supply giveaway.

We exist to equip, empower, and encourage one another in order to engage our community to know Christ. We accomplish this mission by loving God above all else, loving our neighbors as ourselves, and making disciples of all nations. We strive to show the family resemblance to our Heavenly Father by imitating Him in all we do, so that those see us can know that we are children of the Most High God.
